So project: Apiary is now complete and it's looking really good if we do say so ourselves!
On Tuesday the wood chippings arrived and we laid the flags carefully to make sure the hive stands could be seated properly. (I tell you what, Greg is grateful for that wheelbarrow he bought me for my 30th birthday now! "You'll never use it," said he!)
From this: To this!
Then on Thursday, early doors, Greg got a message to say there was a nuc ready and would we like it this weekend? So off he scampered to the apiary to build the hive stand, which he'd been putting off. After much sweating and grunting, he erected the above masterpiece! He even took the open-mesh floor (see below) to make sure it fits perfectly and all in less than satisfactory conditions (I'll keep him around a bit longer.)
We couldn't be more pleased; just a few more accessories like some warning signs, a rope at the entrance (bees of course) and we'll be sorted.
Speaking of which ... I'm very pleased to announce that we will be receiving the bees bright and early this weekend! So watch out for that blog post coming soon.
We are so excited and a little bit nervous. I hope they arrive ok. I hope we put them in ok. I hope the conditions are ok. I hope that we'll be good bee-parents. I hope they're happy and make enough stores to get through the winter ready for next season ...
Lots to think about, lots to do so I hope you'll stick around for this journey with us!
